Inverse Square Functions

Inverse square functions are the inverse of the square functions, i.e. if we find the inverse of a square function then it is the inverse square function.

Example : 1

  Y = x²

Solution :

Taking under the root of both the sides, we get

   X = ±√y

Changing x and y

Y = ±√x

This is the inverse square function of the above function.

We can use the inverse square functions to solve the quadratic equations.

Example : 2

Solve the following quadratic equation using inverse square functions.

    X² - 9=0

Solution :

Add 9 to both sides:

    X²- 9 + 9 = 9

X²= 9

X = ±√9

X = ±3

Hence, x=3 or -3.

So we can solve a quadratic equation by this technique.

Try these problems

  1. Solve the quadratic equation given below using the inverse of a square function method.

  2. 100x²-81=0

    1. 9/10

    2. 9/10

    3. -9/10

    4. 8/10

    Answer: 1

    Explanation:

    100x²-81=0

    Add 81 to both sides:

    100 x² = 81

    Divide by 100:

    X² = 81/100

    X= ±9/10
